EDDIE MACDONALD ENJOYS
SIXTH PLACE RUN AT MOTOR MILE SPEEDWAY By Dick Casey---Triple Crown Racing Eddie MacDonald rebounded from what has been a difficult few weeks to post a satisfying sixth place win in the Star County/Dominic’s Sausage 150 at the Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va. After qualifying seventh, the One Stop Toy Shop entry set sights on a good finish in the Busch North Series visit to the Southern facility. The Rowley, Mass. driver was not happy with the car in practice so crew chief Rollie LaChance went to work according to MacDonald, “ We were slow off the hauler but Rollie made a lot of changes and he hit the set-up just about perfect for qualifying. We started seventh but without all the adjustments we wouldn’t have started there, that’s for sure. We knew then we had a good car so we just wanted to stay out of trouble and have a good run after our problems the last few weeks.” The team’s strategy was to stay out as long as possible so fresher tires would be available near the end of the race. While most teams pitted early for tires, MacDonald kept the Triple Crown Chevy running near the front waiting for the right time. “ We were running easy the first 100 laps and made it up to second place before we decided to come in on the caution. The crew did a great job getting me out quickly. We thought if we had fresher tires at the end we would be able to race for the win.” MacDonald was able to get back into contention in sixth place but was unable to pass the top cars. “I used up the tires getting back up through the field and I just couldn’t get around the top guys. We certainly wanted a top five finish but we are happy we came in sixth. Hopefully one of these days we will be right there in contention at the end. Everyone has been working so hard with Jerry (Morello) giving us whatever we need, to Rollie and the crew giving me the best car possible.” MacDonald enjoyed Motor Mile Speedway saying, “ This place is a lot of fun and I look forward to going back there next year. You could run two and sometimes three wide all around the track and it made for a fun race. All in all, we had a pretty good finish here and hope to come back and do even better.” The team is really looking forward to Saturday’s race at Oxford Plains according to MacDonald, “ I drove Late Models there and it is a lot like Beech Ridge and I’ve had some success there so we should be good. Plus, Rollie knows Oxford real well. It is right in his back yard and he drove Pro Stocks there for a lot of years. Hopefully with his experience along with mine we can be fast off the hauler and run up front. Everyone on the crew is excited about racing there and we are working real hard to get ready.” |
